Question QUESTION: I have thin vertical lines from the top to the bottom of my screen on the right hand side. They cover approximately 2 inches from the side to inward on the screen. The lines are so fine and close together it gives a slight shadowing in this area. I can read information but wonder if this can be resolved. Thanks
ANSWER: Is it under waranty? If so check with Dell about fixing it.
Otherwise:
If this is a flat screen Plasma monitor then the lines would be caused by:
1 - The inverter is failing, it can not supply enough voltage to that area of the screen.
2 - Something has hit the screen and broke the crystals inside the screen thus cutting off the voltage to that area.
3 - That area is failing, again cutting off voltage to that area.
1 is fixable by a repair shop, I do not advise opening and replacing the inverter unless you know what you are doing, the voltage in the inverter is quite high.
QUESTION: Thanks Rider, this is an LCD flat panel computer monitor that is out of warranty, any further advice?
Answer If there is a reputable computer repair shop close by, swing in there and ask if it is repairable and get a quote for a price. If it is low enough (cheaper than a new monitor) then let them fix it if they waranty thier work. Most will waranty the new part and the repairs they have done.
I have two 19" Panasonic monitors, they are both the same model. So if one goes I will keep it and buy the misses a new one. Then if the other one fails I will have parts. If the same part doesn't fail that is.
