Subject: HD install
Question Rider,
Thanks for your last response to my question about replacing a damaged HD. I had written previously explaining that my Dell Latitude x300 had been dropped and as a result at a minimum the HD was trash. My company said if I can get it to work its mine. That said, I think i correctly installed a new 160G Seagate HD. I'm now waiting for the replacement OS to arrive from Dell as I never had the restore disks. When I turn it on now it just says the fan is not on and do I want to proceed, etc.. My question this time is once I receive the restore disks with the OS do i simply start by inserting the disk into the CD player and let it do its thing or am I oversimplifying it??
THanks again for your insight
Answer To answer your question: I have never used Dell's restore program. I suggest you go to Dell's web site and download the documentation for the procedure if it doesn't come with the cd's.

There may be more wrong with the computer than the hard dive being trashed. On my web site there is an article about opening a laptop case. You may want to go there and read the instructions and open the case. You are looking for the connector for the processor fan, disconnect it and reconnect it.
If the fan is not operational then the system will shut down before the processor can be damaged by over heating.
