Question
Hi
I have an HP Pavilion a450n.  Every time I try to access either one of my dvd drives - the computer restarts.  Then microsoft says it has recovered from a serious error and gives errors messages like:
c:\document~1\owner\locals~1\temp\WERf164.diroo\mini123107.03dmp
c:\document~1\owner\locals~1\temp\WERf164.diroo\sysdata.xml

I have already changes the power supply unit, scanned and removed spyware etc and cleaned out the temp internet files and cookies.  Don't know what else to try.  Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
julie

Answer
It sounds as if the drivers for the CD/DVD drive are corrupt. When you access the drive it creates a dump file for use with Microsoft Support.

You can try this:
Start the system and go into 'Safe Mode' you get there by pressing the F8 as soon as you see the startup logo, you have to be fast other wise it will start normally.

Once in safe mode go to My Computer, right click and go to the 'Manage' menu. Once in the System Management, go to the 'Devices' on the left window, click on it, the right window will list the devices in your system, find cd rom, click on the + and open it up, uninstall any devices listed under the cd rom heading.

Restart your system, it should find those devices and reinstall them.

If it persits after doing this then all the drivers are corrupt. From here your choices are try to find the drivers or reload the system.

I would reload the system because if those drivers are corrupt them most of the cache drivers are corrupt also.
Back up your data before you go any futher reguardless of which way you go with the repair, once your data is gone it normally is gone for good.
