Question
Hi there I am having trouble booting system, no beeps only fan running, cd lights up, but no boot.  I looked around and found that the cmos battery is not there!!!  (friends puter) I need to know what kind of battery goes in this machine, I think CR2032 but dont know.  Could this be the cause of the no boot?

Answer
When you start the system pressing F10 will get you into the bios setup, there you can see the devices installed in the computer. Check the boot sequence, it should be
Floppy
CD
Hard Drive
USB device

While you are there check to see if the System sees a video card, should be under PCI devices, if not then you may have more problems than just the CMOS battery missing.

Once you set the options the CMOS will retain those settings as long as the power cord is plugged into AC, once you remove power the CMOS that has a small capacitor will lose power and then the BIOS will revert to default settings.

As for it not stating do you see anything on the video screen?

As for the battery try HP's web site for the correct part.
