Subject: desktop damaged by power surger

Question
Although my desktop and it's peripherals are connected to a surge protector, while replugging the power cord of my time warner router there was a loud snap/click and the smell of burning plastic and electricity. My tower immediately shut off and I cannot power it on. I have moved the power plug to another slot, but  to no avail. Can you assist me on how to repair?
Thanks you
Robert

Answer
Your surge supressor may be damaged. Have you changed it?
Try plugging the computer into the wall socket with out the surge supesion. Will it start?

If the surge went through the computer the power supply maybe damaged also.
