Subject: BIOS PASSWORD

Question
As I forgot the BIOS password, I have been told to let the BIOS battery unable for 3-5 seconds. My follow question is : what will happen when I put the battery back? I mean, will the old BIOS password continue or I have to enter a new one?. On the other hand, in order to let the PC as it was before, is it anything else to do after the battery is replaced?.  I do not want any changes in my PC.
By the way, according to your name and surname, I gess you might know spanish. If so, please do answer in spanish.
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Roger,

Behavior varies with every PC, so without knowing which brand and model your motherboard is it's impossible to tell. Also, not all motherboards have the same procedure, some may have a header connector where you must short-circuit some pins in order to erase the BIOS data.
When you run the right procedure, what you erase is the dynamic data on the BIOS settings. The BIOS is a basic program that defines the peripherals map and a way to address them in order to load the operating system. You don't delete the BIOS, you may update it, but if you erase it, the PC will not boot at all.
The dynamic data are the BIOS settings, passwords among them. If you erase it, the motherboard will use the default settings.
Sorry, can't answer in Spanish since this is a public question.

Ricardo
