I purchased my CPU in 2002. All was selected by my relative. This year like when I start one thing, its slow and another thing, it gets hang and possible solution is either wait for long time or get it off immediately. I defrag my computer regularely with O&O Defrag and scan with avast free edition and have firewall ZoneAlarm(cracked) and in genuine windows XP Home edition SP2. No matter how many time I reinstall my windows, its slow. I have Athlon XP with 1.09 GHz and 768 RAM and Nvidia Geforce FX 5200.
Another thing is that when I start my windows, after welcoming screen it comes to desktop. I have only 2 small things on desktop and it after welcoming screen waits(nothing starts) and then gets on desktop. If I press Ctrl Alt Delete, it doesn't start for few minutes and when it does, there are only few processes. When I end "exeplorer.exe" and start it again then windows open.
I am 100 sure it is not virus,spyware or any such thing neither my windows is corrupt for I have installed it many times and have same result. The second problem was solved when I installed SP3 v3311.

With respect, your Processor is probably the bottleneck in your system. As PCs have developed and got more powerful, the creators of software have devised more complex applications. They almost drive each other, the hardware increases to cope with the software and the software increases because the hardware will support it.
Is the athlon the fastest cpu your motherboard will cope with or can a faster one be installed?
I can also recommend an excellent utility for cleaning up your machine, it is called ccleaner.exe and can be downloaded for free. It will clean your hard drive, and locate and fix errors in your registry too.
Personally, I would advise you to upgrade your processor and probably your motherboard and ram too.
