Question
I have a dell vostro with an Intel 420, 1.6, 512kb Celeron A1
chip.  I was wondering what type of slot or socket it might have and what are my upgrade options and possible cost vs just getting a new computer.

Answer
Do you have any more detailed information about the processor? I have found out a little and think it is a socket 775 processor. There are a lot of processors to choose from in socket 775. The limitation is what the motherboard is made for. If you could find out, by looking at the motherboard, model #, make, etc. it would be helpful. You could use your serial number on the dell site and probably find out.
