Question My computer had been on for about 3 hours since my last use. The power light was out, the activity light was out, but I could hear the fan running. I turned it off and turned off the power to the computer. This did nothing. When I turn it back on I still hear the fan, there is a light on my cd drive, but no power or activity lights.
Answer Not an answer you want to hear unfortunately.
Your symptoms point to either a failed motherboard or a failed processor. Either way it's likely more expensive to repair the computer than to buy a new one.
If it is still under any sort of warranty with Gateway I would contact them and see if they can replace it.
