Question hi, my desktop started shutting off a couple weeks ago. it gradually got worse and now it wont even come on at all. a friend of mine thinks its the motherboard battery , i think it might be the power supply. i dont know how to tell .help please.
Answer Well, you can replace the mainboard battery for about a dollar (or less), so that would be the first thing to test, if you're considering that as a problem. If the problem persists, I would suggest a replacement power supply from a reputable vendor, something like an Antec, Enermax, or Corsair unit purchased from somewhere like Newegg would be my pick. If the system is more than ~5 years old, I would honestly consider a replacement though (as the new power supply will be worth more than the entire computer).
