PC hardware--CPU & Motherboard & RAM - problem with usb ports

Question
QUESTION: hello
i have a problem with all my usb ports. what do i do

ANSWER:  Without more detail I'm not sure what problem you are having.

If your USB devices are not working properly, like not being seen by the computer, then you can try Uninstalling the USB Root Hubs and letting Windows reinstall them.
To do this,
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon
2. Select Manage
3. Open Device Manager by double-clicking it on the list
4. Go down to Universal Serial Bus controllers, click the + to expand the list
5. Right-click on each item and select Uninstall for any that have that option.
6. Restart your computer.

Windows will re-detect all of the USB components during boot up and reinstall them. Hopefully that will fix whatever is the issue you are having.

QUESTION: ACTUALLY I HAVE 8 USB PORTS AND ALL ARE NOT WORKING. FRIENDS SAY IT COULD BE A VIRUS INFECTION SO I SHOULD FORMAT.......IF I TAKE THE HARD DISK TO A DIFFERENT SYSTEM AND DO THE FORMATING, WILL IT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM?

Answer
I think a virus is unlikely because viruses that cause actual computer hardware problem like that are very rare.

I would still try uninstalling the USB components as I mentioned above and then letting Windows reinstall them.

If you do end up having to reformat your computer, you will not be able to take out the hard drive and do it in another computer because Windows detects all the computer components, like video, sound, etc, during install. If the hard drive were in a different computer, then it would detect that computers components and not the ones for the computer you pulled it from. If you do reformat, it will need to be done with the hard drive in that computer.
