QUESTION: Dear,

Simple question, which is best the Athlon XP 1800+ or Sempron 2600+

Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Basically, these two processors would perform about the same.  However, at the same clock speed, the Athlon would run twice as fast as the Sempron.

Question   Dear,

Simple question, which is best the Athlon XP 1800+ or Sempron 2600+

Answer   Basically, these two processors would perform about the same.  However, at the same clock speed, the Athlon would run twice as fast as the Sempron.

Answer
AMD processors have always had a tendency to overheat.  Overclocking can cause overheating.  The vintage CPU's and motherboard you are asking about were never made for overclocking to begin with.  I have never overclocked anything in my life because I think it adds nothing to system performance (my opinion).  If you want a faster processor, buy a faster processor - don't try to beef up one that was designed to run best at a certain speed.
