PC hardware--CPU & Motherboard & RAM - Ribbon Cables and slots

Expert: Saleem - 6/10/2009

Question
I foolishly removed my hard drive and ribbon cables from an e machine 300c tower.  When I went to put it back I found that there are three slots on the motherboard, one smaller one, which I know is for the floppy, but the other two slots (not marked) are one on top of each other and both ends of the ribbon cable are the same size, one would be for the HD and one would be for the CD (has two plugs on the cable, I marked this cable when I took it off the CD) but I have no clue which slot to put the two cable ends into on the motherboard and I don't want to put them in the wrong slot and blow up my machine.  e machine serial nu Qd38c 110-03314 if this helps.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Dear Lynn,

I appreciate your concern and I thank you for sending me this email. You can connect the Ribbon cable to any of those two slots, However if you connect it to IDE-0 It would be better but in anyways connecting to anyone of the slot will not do any harm.

Hope you find this info helpful.
