PC hardware--CPU & Motherboard & RAM - press power button twice to startup

Expert: Ricardo Agudelo - 10/2/2005

Question
Every time when I start my pc(winXp, PIII), I have to press the power button twice to get into the WinXp user interface. The first time when I press the power button to start up my pc, I can hear the machine running but there is nothing on the monitor.  If I press the power button to shut it down and repress the power button to start it again, then things start to show up on the monitor, and I eventually get to see the WinXp user interface.  The pc works fine other than that.  I have tried to use another power supply but did not fix the problem.  Please help.  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Miriam,

The problem might be in the BIOS Hard Disk settings or the motherboard drivers in XP.
If you know where to look into the BIOS configuration (before XP starts to boot), check for a Hard Disk startup delay, and set it as long as possible.
You may also check with the motherboard manufacturer for XP drivers.

Ricardo
