Question
Hello Christy,
I'm 13 and I was reading Girlfriend magazine and came across an article about PCOS, and i am a bit worried that i might have it. i am overweight, but not what you'd call fat and I've had my period for about 2 years and have only had it four or five times. i am embarrassed to ask mum.
Can you please tell me if theres a possibility i have PCOS?
thanks.

Answer
Dear Kat,
It is not unusual for girls to have irregular periods when they first start menstruating. Generally they become more regular as a girl gets older. I know you are embarrassed to ask your Mum, but remember that she was once 13 too and she will totally understand what you are going thru and will want to help you. I would sit down and talk to her about it.
