I am able to answer most questions about Pagan religions and magic. I am particularly experienced in the areas of Hearth Magic and Kitchen Witchery, including magical cooking and gardening and Hellenismos including liturgy and mythology. I specialize in matters relating to Pagan children and family. I am also well-versed in Western European spirituality including Wicca and Druidry. I am unable to answer specific theological, historical or liturgical questions related to African Synchretic Spirituality (Santeria, Voodun, Umbanda, etc.) or Heathenry (Asatru, Odinism, etc.)

Experience
I have been a Pagan for nearly 20 years and a Hellenic Pagan for 10. I am currently the organizer for an all-path Pagan children's group, the founder and one of several organizers of the local Pagan meetup group and I maintain a regional website and newsletter for local Pagans as well as a website and newsletter for Hearth Witches. I have over 5 years experience planning and executing public Pagan events, particularly public rituals and family events. I have two teenage children of my own whom I have raised in the Hellenic tradition.

Subject: severe negativity

Question
My family moved to this area 2 years ago.  We have experienced nothing but trouble (all kinds & sorts) since living here. Many of our troubles relate back to a user & liar to get her way or to create chaos.  Many troubles seem to relate to the land itself.
What can I do to rid us (my Mom, Aunt, Son, cats & homes) of this negativity?
I am to the point of almost constant anger & frustration.  This is almost driving me to drink. Please help.
Thank you for your time and your wisdom.

Answer
First, you need to relax and take a deep breath. You may wish to do a ritual of letting go of the person you are blaming for some of these troubles. Let go of her and the blame and move on. She doesn't exist anymore. There are several methods of doing this and you should choose what is best for you. One of my favorites is keeping a journal about the person for awhile (this works best if you're always thinking of what you want to say to her) and just writing in it like crazy and finally, when you've gone a few days and have nothing left to write that you haven't written before, have a bonfire ceremony of destruction of the journal, and release of the person from your life. visualizing any ties you have to the person being cut may help as well.

Then, you need to do a ritual of claiming for the land and property. First, find something sacred to you, if you are Christian this may be holy water. If you are Pagan you may wish to bless water with salt or use a smudge (or both) and walk around the whole house and property smudging and sprinkling water (Clean it up really good first. The house should get a good scrubbing and the property should be mowed and trimmed, with brush neatly stacked and weeds pulled). You can also use a broom to sweep the area. While doing this, picture all the negativity being removed, washed away, swept away, burned away, whatever.

When that's all done, you are free to claim the land of your own. Have a party for it. Like a housewarming party. Buy it gifts, flowers to plant in the flower bed, a decorative statue, stepping stones or a nice swing or bench to sit in and enjoy it and then name it. Yes, give it a name. This makes it very much yours, your responsiblity and something that you can know personally and love. You can even do a whole naming ceremony like you would for a child. Make a little sign and stick it on a post and refer to it as that name. The more you do so, the more it will take on the personality you associate with that name and the more the negativity of others will not be able to affect it in the future.
