AboutChristine Zimmerman Expertise I am a well rounded pagan, born and raised in the tradition. I know quite a lot, except for some forms of divination such as Runes although I read the tarot. I am knowledgeable in almost all areas of practice.
Experience Herbs, Kitchen Witchery, gemstones and crystals, Reiki, Feng Shui, animals and their totems, spells and rituals, sabbats and esbats, solitary and eclectic, Wicca, Goddess Studies and I could go on.
Question I have been interested in this for many years. I am looking for some peace in my life and it keeps leading me to this religion. I will admit that I have a somewhat of an addictive nature and want to move beyond that. As I said before, my gut keeps leading me in this direction but I have never done anything about it. I would like to know about how to start. It feels right to me and now I'm ready. I just need to know how to go about it. Can you help me?
Answer Merry Meet Leslie,
Yes, of course I can help you get started! The best advice I could give you is read, read and read some more! I too found peace at last with my religion and I would never, ever, give it up for anything. A good place to start on line is here...http://paganwiccan.about.com/ This is a great comprehensive site with links all over the place that explain virtually every aspect of paganism and Wicca. Wicca is just one of the many sub religions under the umbrella term paganism. You may or may not fancy it, but it's a great place to start as you explore. Books, Wicca for the Solitary Practioner by Raymond Buckland and also his Book The Complete Book of Witchcraft, another good one. Other good authors to look at would be the late Scott Cunningham, Ellen Dugan, The Ferrar's have many books on the subject...well that's a good starting point. I don't want to overload you. Once you get the basics down then you might want to invest in specialty books such as guides on herbs, spellwork, crystals, and so on as I could go on forever about the sheer amount of information that is available to you.
There are also great sites you can join to meet like minded people and make friends. Some sites are actually set up to teach different subjects and that too is a never ending source.
For someone with an addictive personality, paganism should help you move past that and give you plenty to focus on. It is a life long learning process and it's most definitely a way of life that you live and breathe every day. There is so much joy in it, to me it's indescribable.
Start with the website and a book or two. Should you require more assistance, direction or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me :)
Many blessings to you and yours and may your new journey find you peace!
