Pagan/Wiccan Religion - owls

Expert: Dawn Black - 8/28/2009

Question
2 and a half weeks ago my sister (who I very rarely ever go anywhere with spent a weekend together.)  it was a week of a full moon.  each night for a short period of time the moon was orange. it was during this time THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW we seen a big owl in front of our vehicle as we were going down the rode. it was there and flew a way.  What are the chances of that we wondered, ?and what does it mean ?and for which one of us ?or both of us?  I cant help but wonder.

Answer
Animal sightings mean nothing unless you have a personal connection to an animal. For me an owl represents the Goddess Athene and it is also my matrilinial totem (grandma's side of the family). If I saw one in a specific circumstance I would know which one was sending me a message just by a gut feeling. And so it's the same with you. In tribal times when the Shaman revealed the meaning behind animal messages to a member of his tribe, said tribe member was someone the Shaman knew from birth and he knew his whole family and his religious and spiritual backgrounds. Without knowing all that, I can't translate this for you. It's going to have to be up to you.

If the sighting appeared around the same place, do keep in mind that owls establish a hunting territory so you could have simply been crossing his path on his usual route.
Chances are, since it was both of you and it didn't happen to either of you when you weren't together, if there is a message here, it's for both of you. It could be related to the family.
Here is some general information on owl totems
