Pagan/Wiccan Religion - New to the altar

Expert: Babylon Jasmine - 9/20/2009

Question
My question actually has several parts... I am just entering the wiccan religion and someone who claims to be experienced in such things has asked to be allowed to bless my altar for me 'so I don't mess it up' Everything I have read on the subject so far seems to imply that I should do it myself.. I FEEL that I should do it myself would it hurt anything if I let him do it and then did it again myself? And he says it must be blessed on a full or new moon is that true or is he just yanking my chain so to speak?

Answer
It sounds to me like this person rather enjoys being an expert.  It also sounds as if they are not at all the right sort of expert for you.

Letting him bless your altar shouldn't hurt anything, but you might want to do a purifying ritual on it before you bless it yourself.  As far as the phase of the moon, I imagine that for him to effectively consecrate an altar it has to be either the full or the new moon.  The same may or may not be true of you, it depends on your relationship with the moon.  For me personally different phases of the moon are good for different things, and I would not want to worry overly much which phase it was when I consecrated an altar.
