The following are sample range of questions that I am very comfortable answering: Can a person be Christian and practice Witchcraft? How do you know if you are a witch? What are the Gods / Goddess associated with the element of fire? What is the connection between the cycle of the moon and a woman`s monthly cycle?

Experience
I have been a practicing witch for the past five years. I have studied world religions and the connection between religious practice and performing arts. I am skilled in Tarot readings and creating amulets / talismans.

Pagan/Wiccan Religion - How do I explain my interest in paganism and the occult to my fundamental Christian family/friends?

Expert: Luna - 10/28/2007

Question
I have been lightly researching paganism and witchcraft for a couple years now and would like to get more serious about it (choose a path, follow a religion, work on magic and spells, weave pagan beliefs into my life, etc.).  But I live in an extremely fundamental and close minded area, and all the people I care most about are that way.  It would upset them greatly, I would be ostracized, and I would be made the butt of quite a few jokes, at the mimimum.  How can I deal with this?  How do I get them to understand that everyone doesn't think the same way they do?

Answer
Hello Darbla,

Coming out of the "broom closet" is a major decision, and in your case I would think twice about coming out at this moment in time.

Witches have lost their jobs, their kids and haven even been forced to leave their hometown for fear of bodily harm because of their faith. This is why most of what we do is done in secret. This is what has helped the craft survive for so long and has allowed most witches of past and present to live in reasonable peace.

No matter how many facts you provide and no matter how well you try to educate people, you can not change what people believe and how they feel. Only they themselves can change their own thoughts and attitudes.

Don't worry, you do not need to walk around with a pentagram necklace on or dress in long robes and have your house filled with the smell on incense to be a witch. Your faith is in your heart and you faith is no ones business but your own.

To be a witch means to live in two worlds- both the magical and the mundane. In time both worlds will naturally blend together, but in a way that only you will be able to recongnize.

You've heard the saying, "Dead Men Tell No Tells"? Well, "Dead Witches Cast No Spells". Please keep yourself safe and the craft secret, for now.

I hope this helps. Blessed be!
