Pagemaker (Adobe) - Pagemaker 7.0 Column Layout Bilingual - Hindi - English

Expert: Glen Demers - 10/2/2008

Question
I want to prepare a document with two columns.  On the left side I would like to have text in Hindi(an Indian Language)and on the right side I would like to incorporate English.  When I use the place command with autoflow to run the text from Word document, the entire text, either Hindi or English, is distributed on both the columns. Whereas I want text in Hindi to be pasted on the left and English on the right column.

Further when I edit the document any additional text should align and auto flow over the next columns.

I have a few photographs to be incorporated between the paragraphs of Hindi and English.

Could you please tell me how I could do this.

This procedure is generally adopted in our country as a part of the policy of the Govt. of India in publishing documents in bilingual format and in diglot format ie; in Hindi and English with Hindi in the left columns and English in the right side column.

Answer
Hi Chandrakanth,

With autoflow text will go from one column to the next as it's doing. you need to turn off autoflow and place text in one column, click on the overset icon (the red plus) and then click on the column you want on the next page. In this way you will manually flow the text from one column to another. You can place the photos on top of the columns and flow the text around them with text wrap.

Hope this helps,
Glen Demers
