Pagemaker (Adobe) - fonts

Expert: Glen Demers - 9/19/2008

Question
QUESTION: Is there anywhere that I can go to view fonts so I can select the one that most suits the projects I have working.  It is so frustrating not to be able compare multiple fonts side by side.  I would even be willing to print out a copy of the fonts so I can see what they look like.

ANSWER: Hi Sharon,

Suitcase and other font management software allows you to see the fonts. My advice would be to go to VersionTracker and search for font utilities for your particular system. There are many free and inexpensive programs for viewing, organizing and printing out font samples such as AMP Font Viewer. Linotype also has an excellent font management program available for free download but it is for Macs only.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: This seems to be the only way I can get back to you since it said too many questions.  re: this answer

"PageMaker 6.5 files will open in PageMaker 7. Go to File> open and browse to the PageMaker 6.5 documents."

When I open and browse, there are NO 6.5 files!  I have looked everywhere on my computer and cannot find them.  I know it is just a case of not knowing where to look for the old files, BUT they do not seem to be accessible to me.  I don't know where to go to look.

Answer
Hi Sharon,

Search for files that contain .pmd using the find file utility.
This is the PageMaker 6.5 extension.
If you remember a specific file name search for that as well.

Note the pathway to these files when they turn up and make sure the file names end with .pmd when you go to open them in PM7.

Hopefully you didn't have them in the RSRC folder that got overwritten when you upgraded.

Hope this helps,
Glen Demers
