Is is possible that Pagemaker 7.0.1 and Acrobat/Distiller 8 are not compatible?
Answer Hi Lynette,
I'm assuming you are on a PC because PageMaker and Acrobat 8 are definitely not compatible on the Mac - they each have different system requirements. Adobe does not plan to make PageMaker compatible with Vista. There is an update available for PageMaker 7.0.1a here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=34&platform=Windows
As far as I know you can use PageMaker with Acrobat 8 and even 9. Lynette, I'm a mac guy and not that familiar with how PageMaker integrates with Acrobat on Windows, however, re-installing PageMaker on the mac AFTER updating other software will cure a lot of glitches.
In your PageMaker document make sure you have TOC checked in your styles definition and re-apply the style to your headlines, etc, just changing it in the style won't work you have to reapplt the style and then the option should be available in the Export>PDf dialogs.
Hope this helps,
Glen Demers
