Question Glen, i create a newsletter for my company and the printer that I use wants the file in PDF format. We are looking at pagemaker 7.0. My problem is the photos that I use are high resolution and large. I will need the ability to resize the photos that are used in the newsletter. Does Pagemaker 7.0 offer the ability to resize photos?
Answer Hi Charlotte,
PageMaker, as well as InDesign and QuarkXpress, place preview images on your pages that are linked to the originals. This keeps your page layout document file size small. You can scale and crop the images as well as rotate (not recommended) and depending on the program, apply some effects.
When you make pdf's you use the pdf options to control file size, in the compression setting area you want to select bicubic downsampling to 300dpi and zip compression for your color and greyscale images. Monochrome images should be downsampled to 1200 dpi with CCITT 4 compression.
I should point out that Adobe is not supporting PageMaker and InDesign may be a better choice for page layouts if you plan on doing this for very long.
Hope this helps,
Glen Demers
