Subject: illustrator into pagemaker

Question
when i am importing an illustrator 8.0 graphic (.ai) into pagemaker6.5, using the file-place drop down, what appears is gray block with a text description of the  graphic as opposed to the actual graphic.  inserting  it as an ole object avoids the problem, but seems more cumbersome.  i know it is a simple default or preference issue, but i can't seem to find it.
thanks-a LOT!

Answer
I would recommend saving as an eps before placing in Pagemaker.  However, it sounds like your ai has no preview.  Go into Illustrator, do a Save As, and make sure there is some kind of option selected in the preview drop box (I think that it works that way in AI 8).
