Pain Management - Chroic shoulder replacement spasum pain

Expert: Dr. Man Tran, Ph.D., D.C., L.Ac. - 4/20/2009

Question
I'am now about 8 weeks out from a shoulder replacement.  For the first 5 to 6 weeks the pain was a nightmare to say the least.  I'am now about to attend my 8th therapy session. I do my assigned exercises at home but the pain continues and just using my pain medication and ice pacs doesn't phase the pain.  Please Help

Answer
Hi Allen,

I'm not sure what I can do with the limited information.  Since you are receiving therapy, what does the doctor or therapist says about your pain?  Maybe the pain is from the body still repairing itself while you are trying to build the muscles around the shoulder to stabilize the joint.  Could it be the joint is locking in with movements?  the muscles not ready to work yet?  Very hard to say without being there to examine.

Best suggestion is to ask the doctor who performed the surgery or the therapist who conducted the therapy or the doctor who prescribed the therapy.

Good luck.
