Pain Management/Pain medication

Question
Could you please explain to me (or refer me to a website) how Opioids like morphine work?  In my research i found that they inhibit pain impulses, do you know how this happens?  Thanks

Answer
Cory,

Sorry for the delayed answer.  Opioids work by mimicing a group of naturally occuring body chemicals called endorphins.  These chemicals bind to receptors in your body called mu receptors.  This binding decreases pain sensation.  Unfortunately, opoids are incredibly complex substances and can have effects on many areas of the body.  This is the primary mechanism of action, however.
