About David Ryan Expertise I can answer on how to use Paint Shop Pro in many situations; creating graphics for games, editing photos, pictures, etc... I am not very confident in using `masks` though, but apart from that, i`m experienced in most other parts of the sofware, though. You can ask me how to use different tools or `how do i make this like this?` and I am willing to help anyone

Question Hi there. I need to know how to go into Paint Shop Pro 7.0 and make the background transparent on all of my shorthand graphic files. I really don't know how to use this program and haven't understood the "help" files very well either. I tried playing with the menu selections one evening and somehow whatever I did, worked. I tried to do it again, but it didn't work. I wished I had written down what I first did but don't actually remember how I did it. It was simply an accident that I got a transparency that night. Can you help me?
Thanks so much. Ms. Letha - Rye, Co.
Answer I remember being like that when I first started PSP 7 ;) ~ This is the method i use to make transparent backgrounds on things:
1. Select the freehand selection tool: the yellowy, speech bubble thing in the 'tool palette'.
2. Make sure you have the 'tool options palette' window up; you can open it from view>toolbars.
3. On the 'tool options palette', click on the drop - down box, and select 'point to point'.
4. Make a selection around the object, by clicking and moving to the next point; double click when you've gone all the way round.
5. Now you'll (hopefully!) have a selection around your object. go to Edit>copy (or Ctrl+C), to copy the selection.
6. Choose: Edit>Paste>As New Image or (Ctrl+V).
You now have a transparent background; or should do. ;)
- You can soften the edges a bit, by choosing the 'retouch' brush on the tool palette; and then on the tool options palette, choose 'soften'; changing the size and hardness of the brush. The go around the edges, and it should soften it all up, to make it look neater. - if it's too soft; change the opacity of the soften brush in the tool options palette.
I hope this works for you; please tell me if it doesn't, and give me more information on what you want.
