Subject: Best way to get the word out
Question Jessica,
I have read many of your responses and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. It is fantastic.
I am starting a field and wanted to know if you have some recommendation for advertising the field to players and teams? Obviously, the lower the cost....:>)
Thanks in advance
Answer Paintball players always know about a new field. The word goes out incredibly fast.
The players who help get the field ready will tell their friends. Staff you hire will do the same.
It's ok to beta-test the field layouts, traffic patterns, fill stations, new refs, paint ordering schedules, etc., with a few customers and friends. They'll help find things you or I might not think of.
Advertising is very necessary. Today, start a website right away. It can be very simple with the essential information. Add the website to all your flyers, ads, etc.
Running an ad in the local paper, even a small ad, regularly (weekly at least) will get the word out in the local area. The paper should do an opening article for you as a new advertiser, if you're in a small enough market. Even if you only run in the classified section, running regularly will do a good job for you.
Flyers can be as simple as 8-1/2 x 11 paper in a light color (light blue is ok) or white, black ink, some kind of graphic, use both sides of the paper or make a tri-fold design. These can be created on a computer. Print 1000 at a time. Leave them anywhere you think makes sense (coffee shops, barber shops, etc.).
Talk. T-shirts. Magnetic signs for your vehicles. A few baseball style hats. Pens in bulk are not expensive (blue ink - so when they sign their waivers you can tell you have an orginal signature).
Post simple business cards on the free bulletin boards. Find websites where you can add your field for free. Send an announcement of the field opening to all the magazines and major websites as a press release. Ask your suppliers what promotional materials they have to help you with, or co-op advertising support.
There are a lot more ideas you could try. I'd like to know what works best for you --
