Painting - A.B. Frost framed picture

Expert: Josef-Peter Roemer - 10/11/2009

Question
I recently acquired two framed, signed A.B. Frost pictures. There is a sticker on one from an art gallery in California. Upon calling, my husband gave the man on the phone the numbers from the sticker and when he typed the information into his computer he advised us the numbers corresponded to certain numbers in a set of paintings sold at the gallery in 1967 for $1600 each. Could this possibly be correct? Are they then prints or originals? I have digital photos of the front and back of the picture. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Nicole,
There are no pictures to look at, but you should be able to tell if they are prints or paintings fairly easily.  If they are prints, and full color like a photograph, they are most likely machine lithos and not originals.  If the gallery said that is what they sold for then it must be correct.
The next step you need to do is get them appraised for present value.  I do not have info to appraiser, you will have to find them on line just as I do.

Regards

Josef-Peter
