Question Hello I bought a painting on ebay a couple of years ago. The owner did not know the artist. There is a name but I can not make it out. He said it was a russian avante garde painting. It reminds me of Russian folk tales like a lacauerware box but it is also what I would call expressionist, not strictly representative. How would I go about finding identifying the artist. I have spent many hours looking at members of the russian avante garde but can not find anything close. thank you kind regards Lavinia

It may be that the artist is unknown, if you consider how many people today paint and no one knows about them because they have not reached any sort of notoriety. You might try these two websites:
