Question
I recently purchased a large calder screened on canvas litho.  How do I know if it is real.  Has a paper label with info on backside.

Thank you,

Ace

Answer
Hi Ace,
Thanks for your question, that is a tricky subject Fake or Fine Art!, a litho being on canvas means nothing.  You can buy all all kinds of lithos on canvas from Thomas Kinkaid.  They are Prints printed on canvas, even signed they are not real fine art they are printed mechanically, worth about the cost of the paper Ink and time it took for the machine to print it.  Not different then the magazine printed picture.

No as far as you Lithograph, it may be real I have not seen it in person.  Here is a link you should read:http://jklfa.blogspot.com/2007/11/scam-alert-fine-art-or-fake-art-how-can.html

I'm no expert on Calder, I can tell in person if it is a hand pulled litho or just a mechanical print.  My suggestion is you look on line for a gallery that carries Calder Lithos and there are many and send them a picture to find out their opinion.

If it where real it wold probably run around $7000 to $9000, from what I have seen.

But of course that depends on the art work may be more or less.

I hope this will help you some what.

Regards

Josef-Peter
