QUESTION: Hi, Thanks for your speedy response! It has small steel type hinges which are covered in a brown paper seal, the back panel is hardboard.
Answer Dear Beverley,
As a general rule, the value of a painting will remain higher if it is in mint condition. Without actually seeing your painting I cannot determine if it is an original or a print. However, if you think it may be an original painting, then I would take it to a reputable, well established framer in your area and have them make the determination as to whether your painting is an original or a print. If they have to remove the backing in order to make the determination, they probably can do so in a manner that will be less destructive.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of further assistance.
