Expert: James Few, PSA - 6/4/2009

Question
I have a pastel desert cactus painting reproduction print signed by H Wysocki and on back of 2foot by 2 foot 6 print it says Ira Roberts of Beverly Hills and has  the number 1911 for style number.I would appreciate any information you could tell me about the author, painting ,thank you!

Answer
Sorry Robin, but art ID and appraisal is not my thing. I usually answer questions about the use of the soft pastel medium only.

However you might try these guides:

Artist Research Library

Find Thousands of Artists by Name, Discipline, Period, Term & More.

For identification help, you might contact the American National Gallery research library or look in their online inventory for the artist's name.. http://www.nga.gov/resources/dldesc.shtm

If price of original art is your concern, I recommend that you contact an appraisal service in your area. You may also wish to use the services of an online appraisal service such as   www.eppraisals.com, or http://www.artomania.com/ . However I cannot vouch for their veracity.

The secondary print market is a whole other thing. I have no idea what a style number is.

Price always depends on supply and demand regardless of what you are selling. It is worth exactly what you can get a buyer to pay for it. Cost is not the same as price.

And

Free information and advice is worth exactly what it costs ----
nothing!
