This Luman Winter painting hung on my Mother's wall and now it is mine and I can't find out any information about it.  Is the painter well known and is this painting of any value to me?

Yes, this is a well-known artist.  If this is an original painting, it could be worth s few thousand dollars.  I would recommend that you take it to a reputable art dealer/appraiser to see what you have.  Even his prints sell for in the hundreds.
