Subject: Interior of a Storage Shed

Question
I have a brand new storage shed with the typical unfinished pine studs and plywood on the interior and vinyl siding on the outside.  I was thinking of protecting the wood on the interior of the shed from moisture and insects and I was hoping to be able to use a garden sprayer to apply the product.  What would you recommend - a clear polyurethane or a deck water sealing product or something totally different? I live in NE Ohio. Thanks

Answer
Hello Mark,
A Buckeye, I'm originally from Evansville,IN. and have relatives all over Ohio,Indiana,Kentucky,Illinois, and michigan.Hoos yer daddy
You have the right idea. I would suggest you use  'Wood LIFE' , a wood preservative and insecticide. Now this product IS VERY TOXIC until it is completely dry. It contains 5% 'Agent Orange' - the military defoliant used in Viet Nam - Can't remember the chemical name off hand. You Will Have to use a respirator when using this product. But it is the BEST product I know of. I know of a redwood deck around a swimming pool on the side of a mountain here in AZ. I sprayed it myself. And it is structurally safe and sound. No dryrot or termite damage after more than 24 years. I has been surface sprayed with Thompson's Water Seal every 3 - 4 years - only maintenance.
Full suggestion: 1 coat 'Wood Life' or a less toxic alternative. allow to dry completely. Then two coats Thompson's. Spray both products with as low a pressure as you can still get a good fan pattern ( you can get tips for garden sprayers that are made for just that purpose). Be sure to achieve a good penetrating wet coat with each application.
I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!! IF YOU CHOSE TO USE THE 'WOOD LIFE' PRODUCT; YOU MUST USE A RESPIRATOR!!!!!! This product is VERY TOXIC !!! One whiff will DROP YOU TO YOU KNEES instantly. It has the effect of a punch to the solar plexus. THIS IS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE! BUT, I still use this product frequently!! It is the BEST!!
Good luck with with your project.
