Experience I began as a decorative painter/artist 15 years ago. My work has appeared in magazines from award winning designer show houses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Architectural Digest. Most recently I have spent the last 3 years creating, developing and patenting a numerical color selection system that takes the subjective nature out of color. Since it is numerically based, color can be chosen quickly and accurately. For the past year, I have conducted training seminars for the "Color with No Regrets" System to decorating professionals around the United States. My background in decorative painting/art, has given me real life experience of how color works but more importantly why it works based on sound color principles. I am also an authorized Aqua Finishing Solutions Distributor and a certified training instructor for the Society of Decorating Professionals.

Question Hi Cyndie you helped once before but I'm not sure if I like the blue color that much. It just seems a little too much. I am sending you a couple of pics, because the other end of the room might help a little too. I was wondering if I could paint it a grey. What kind of painting do you think I should look at. We really don't like contemporary art we like something that has people or tells a story or scenery or something. Also what other color of pillows should I add?
I am not sure that I found just the right piece of art for your taste, but here is a sample with a gray wall. Gray like brown comes in many different undertones. The walls are painted gray with a red-violet undertone. You can choose a gray with a blue, green etc. undertone as well. Since your room is very neutral, a little color within the gray would be nice. Then for your throw pillows, you could use a very deep almost black red-violet. Also, you can add an area rug if you want to add more color.
Since your ottoman is somewhat contemporary as well as the lines of your sofa, you may want to use a traditional type of picture with muted colors, but have a very updated look. It will be important to keep the colors muted vs. the bright.
Let me know if you have any other questions or if you want to see another gray with a different undertone.
Thanks for getting back to me.
