Experience I began as a decorative painter/artist 15 years ago. My work has appeared in magazines from award winning designer show houses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Architectural Digest. Most recently I have spent the last 3 years creating, developing and patenting a numerical color selection system that takes the subjective nature out of color. Since it is numerically based, color can be chosen quickly and accurately. For the past year, I have conducted training seminars for the "Color with No Regrets" System to decorating professionals around the United States. My background in decorative painting/art, has given me real life experience of how color works but more importantly why it works based on sound color principles. I am also an authorized Aqua Finishing Solutions Distributor and a certified training instructor for the Society of Decorating Professionals.

Question Hello, I'm getting ready to give my living room a makeover, tired of plain white walls. The look I'm going for is "Tan and Black", comfortable yet modern. I have espresso leather furniture, a large piano black flat panel TV, light oak floors. The space is small: 15' x 12' x 8'h. Can you recommend a good color combination for walls and trim? I'm thinking a deep golden beige w/ creamy ivory trim. However, the golden beige's I've seen online all look pink to me and I don't want that effect. Is there a standard color combination for the effect I'm trying to achieve? Please recommend a couple choices (w/ paint brand numbers too) if you can so I can choose. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks in advance for your help.
Answer Hi Eric,
One of my favorites is Sherwin Williams Bagel or Totally Tan. It looks great with Navajo White woodwork. If you are looking for something more golden, take a look at Belvedere or Blonde. If you are look for something deeper, you can use any one of the colors on those paint strips. Because you sofa is very dark, I would try to stay with something in the center of those strips. I hope this helps you.
If you want to send over a picture, I can alter it for you. This way you can see how the room will look before you paint. Just let me know. I am happy to help you.
