Question
Hi
I have just painted a base coat - latex interior paint. It is a light creamy colour - two coats for good coverage. I would like to now paint several horizontal stripes around the room - gold and black ( It's my son's bedroom, he is a big Boston Bruins hockey fan ). I want to use blue 3M painters tape to distinguish between the stripes. How long do I have to wait before I can apply the painters tape on the freshly painted surface? Also, I know the colour stripes will require several coats - after I apply the final coat of the colours, how long should I wait before removing the painters tape?

Answer
I'd suggest waiting at least 24 hours before applying blue tape on the wall. ( A better alternative which will cut down on "bleed through" is green (frog) tape). It is something new that just came out about 6 months ago.
After you apply the final coat, carefully try to peel of the tape right away. If it starts to peel off the paint, wait 12-24 hours until it is dry.
Hope that helps....any other questions, just ask.......
