Painting & Wallpapering - paint for a vintage spanish house

Expert: Rebecca Bushner - 10/10/2009

Question
I have a 1928 Spanish house with original dark wood mouldings and stenciled beams in the ceilings.  I am looking for a beautiful warm white that I can paint all of the walls to allow the furnishings to pop.  I have a number of burled walnut pieces from the 1920's  and a red based antique sarouk rug.  In my previous house, I used "Carved Ivory" by Dunn Edwards and loved it, but in my new house the light is mostly northern and it makes the Carved Ivory look too yellow and heavy.  I tried lightening the formula to 75% but then it took on pink undertones.I tried Birch White but it feels too green.   Any ideas for a creamy vintage warm white that wont look too dirty and dull in my north facing house? Thanks

Answer
Hi Brain
Unfortunately, I can't find "Carved Ivory" in my Dunn Edwards fan deck. Maybe it's a discontinued color?
However, here are some other Dunn Edwards colors to look at:
French White DEW311
Finest Silk  DE 6127
Antique Linen DE 6148
Jakarta  DEC 737

I hope this helps Brian!
Good luck,
reb
