Painting & Wallpapering - painting kitchen cabinets

Expert: Ed Kuchar - 11/9/2009

Question
Hi there,

I just purchased a brand new home.  It has brand new entry level kitchen cabinets (Seacrest Birch Flat Panel--not sure if this means anything in the scope of the question.)  The quality seems ok-not high end but I can live with it.  I really wanted a white cabinet kitchen.  I was thinking of either resurfacing or painting the kitchen cabinets.  What do you think of having the kitchen cabinets painted. I will have a professional do it.  How long will the painting last, do you think?

Thanks for your advice.

Elizabeth

Answer
White kitchen cabinets would look great!
If it is done right and with quality paint, it should last a number of years!
Since there is alot of "wear and tear" around kitchen cabinets, I'd suggest priming them with an oil base primer, then painting with a good quality oil paint. They will be easy to wash and keep clean.
Hope that helps.........any other questions, just ask.....
