Painting & Wallpapering - Aluminum outside door

Expert: Laura Mesich - 4/16/2009

Question
My Aluminum door is cracked (from cold weather). Can I paint it?  It has a lot of little cracks.  Thanks

Answer
Yes, you can paint it. Prep is the key for it to last. Scrap it, sand it down as smooth as possible. Make sure it is clean and wash down with a TSP and bleach solution. prime it with a exterior primer. Use a good quality. Use a good quality paint like Duration Exterior,Sherwin Williams. 2-coats and you should be good, I would also use a satin finish.
Good Luck, Laura
