Painting & Wallpapering - Border paper

Expert: Laura Mesich - 4/1/2009

Question
I have vaulted ceilings in my living/dining room area. We use the dining room area as part of the living room and I am painting it to separate the two areas with contrasting colors. I have 2 questions. Does border paper need to follow the ceiling or is it supposed to be level with the lowest point around the room? Also, can I use 2 different borer papers with their according colors in the two areas or should the border papers be the same? Thank you.

Answer
I think a lot of it depends on preference. There is no rule regarding any of it. It has to do with what makes scene, what you like and how it looks.

I don't know about two borders together. It might be to much. Also I like the though of being level around the room. Question, If you use the dining room with the living room, why are you separating?

Just curious.
A nice way to separate a large room is maybe putting an accent wall on one of the walls farthest from the other rooms walls.

Other than that I don't think I would use the two borders together.

Good luck, Laura
