Experience
I began as a decorative painter/artist 15 years ago. My work has appeared in magazines from award winning designer show houses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Architectural Digest. Most recently I have spent the last 3 years creating, developing and patenting a numerical color selection system that takes the subjective nature out of color. Since it is numerically based, color can be chosen quickly and accurately. For the past year, I have conducted training seminars for the "Color with No Regrets" System to decorating professionals around the United States. My background in decorative painting/art, has given me real life experience of how color works but more importantly why it works based on sound color principles. I am also an authorized Aqua Finishing Solutions Distributor and a certified training instructor for the Society of Decorating Professionals.

Painting & Wallpapering - Paint Color for Safari Boy's Bedroom

Question
Hello,
We are moving our son into his first bed and redoing his room in what I would call a sophisticated safari theme based on this Zebra bedding purchase: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p9271/index.cfm?pkey=cpatterned%2Dduvet%2Dco...
The room is large and gets a lot of light. The furniture will be low and modern/contemporary (MALM set from IKEA) and will be in the "medium brown" color, which seems to have reddish tones in it. Thinking of also adding a papasan chair with a microfiber cream or brown cushion in the corner.
I've been struggling with wall color. At first I loved the idea of chocolate brown walls, but then realized that would likely be too much brown with the brown stripes in the bedding. So, I'm primarily looking at Benjamin Moore colors and so far had narrowed it down to something in the yellow/gold family that remind me of safari-type colors: Citrine (Affinity color also with greenish tones to it) or Chestertown Buff (this was suggested by a guy at the paint store) have been at the top of my list recently. I've also been wondering about Honeymoon. Am I on the right track or should I be looking at different colors? Would any of these colors look good? I also looked at Rattan (another Affinity) but that's a very different color than the above...also with more green in it. I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on what BM colors might look good with this decor.

Answer
Hi Melinda,

Any one of those colors will work.  Chestertown Buff is safe and the other colors are very nice as well.  With your bedding you can use just about anything.  Even a brick red would work.  I don't think there is a bad choice among the colors you gave me.

Another color that would be fun is Benjamin Moor Egyptian Sand or Wasabi.   Lots of options!  The bedding is great! I love Pottery Barn!

I hope this helps you.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
