Painting & Wallpapering/Wall Covering

Question
We have vertical Fir in our den which we would like to cover with a covering to paint or wallpaper over. We would like to do the least amount of damage to the wood as it was quite expensive when purchased. We would now however like a change. Any suggestions?

Answer
Dear Susan
The LEAST amount of damage to the paneling is acrylic latex paint or an acrylic whitewash. Paint can be stripped more easily than stain. Wallpaper.....depends on the wallpaper adhesive and if there are ridges between your panels, in which case I do not recommend paper. I would leave that up to a professional paperer.  Good luck!
