Question Our main floor is large & open. An L shape Livingroom/dining room with vaulted ceilings(11-12 ft). Our longest wall runs across the l/r & d/r and we've painted it a brick red. All other walls have a light brown (or dark tan) called Cliffrock. We have dark brown leather furniture. Can we put a dark stained bamboo flooring down or will it make the rooms too dark? The trim and ceilings are white. We're thinking area rugs and accent colors in pillows etc. and plenty of lighting should help? Are we right or are we going to have to pick EITHER dark walls OR floors, not both? The space is about 400 sf
Answer Hi Haedy
You certainly can do dark floors with dark walls, but to be safe, keep the floors the darkest color and the walls more "medium". However, make sure you have Abundant natural light as well as excellent artificial lighting. I'm also thinking that the area rugs be lighter than the floors...they don't have to be white but light might look really nice. Just make sure it's dramatic, not cave-like and you will be ok.
Good luck!
