Painting & Wallpapering - woodwork

Expert: Rebecca Bushner - 4/16/2009

Question
Looking to repaint off-white woodwork - have seen some newer homes that have a dark beige woodwork (almost taupe)(very soft looking)  Is this a new trend?  Your thoughts on that or bright white?  Thanks

Answer
Dear Diane
The wood work trends depend on the context and architecture. There isn't one color trend for wood, but several. The main trend I see is one away from the bright orangy-yellow blond oak trim that was popular in the 1980's and 90's. My thoughts? For things that you probably will not change more than every 10-20 years (wood work, counter tops, flooring, etc.) stick with what YOU love, not what is trendy. Trends are for quick-change items: wall color, area rugs, pillows, bedding, slipcovers, etc. Or for people with unlimited budgets!
Cheers,
rebecca
