Experience I began as a decorative painter/artist 15 years ago. My work has appeared in magazines from award winning designer show houses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Architectural Digest. Most recently I have spent the last 3 years creating, developing and patenting a numerical color selection system that takes the subjective nature out of color. Since it is numerically based, color can be chosen quickly and accurately. For the past year, I have conducted training seminars for the "Color with No Regrets" System to decorating professionals around the United States. My background in decorative painting/art, has given me real life experience of how color works but more importantly why it works based on sound color principles. I am also an authorized Aqua Finishing Solutions Distributor and a certified training instructor for the Society of Decorating Professionals.

Question Hi,
We recently renovated our home (built in the late 1960s) and did wide plank natural white oak flooring with oak baseboards to match the oak trim around the windows and doorways (that had been done around 5 years ago). The kitchen and living room have been opened up (we took down a wall between the two and added a bar instead), and the walls are painted a greenish-grey (Benjamin Moore's 'clarksville' and 'crownsville' grey). My problem is that the back door and pantry door in the kitchen are white and it seems to be too much of a stark contrast with the wood trim. Our cabinets are very dark chocolate brown, and our furniture is all dark chocolate leather or wood. We have large windows in this area and it receives a lot of natural light, so after looking at a few online sites, I was thinking about painting the doors a black-brown (the kitchen countertops are black). Any thoughts on that, or other suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Thanks for your help,
Kim.
Answer Hi Kim,
You could definitely go with the black-brown since it ties in with the rest of your space or, you could use a deeper tan such as BM Powell Buff which would pull in the tones of the oak. Both will work great.
Thanks for asking. I hope this helps you.
