Painting & Wallpapering - Layers upon layers of walls and papers!

Question
Dear Ed, I have recently rented an older home (c.1901) that has terrible, tacky, dated wallpaper in most of the room and wood paneling in the rest of them. The owner doesn't care what I do to the walls, but I feel overwhelmed by what I'm dealing with and don't want to spend a lot of money since I don't own the house, It seems that all the rooms have paneling and that they just covered over the paneling with a thin sheet of wood which they then wallpapered. Then they put decorative crown mouldings and baseboards, and window frames and door frames over top of the wallpaper. I think that trying to remove that paper would be a massive project. Can I just paint over it, and if so, what supplies do I need? Thanks!

Answer
Yes, you can paint over the wallpaper, but it would be better to remove the paper. I think since you are living in a rental house, the easiest and least expensive way would be to paint over the old paper.
You will need a paint tray (or paint bucket), roller cover, roller handle, paint brush, blue masking tape, drop cloths, painters, plastic (to cover furniture), spackle (to patch holes in the walls).
Hope that helps....any other questions, just ask...
