Painting & Wallpapering - Paint or Stain Exterior Brick

Expert: Rebecca Bushner - 5/19/2009

Question
We would like to re-color (earth tone) the outside brick on our vacation home in Gatlinburg. Right now it is a rose color. Which do you recommend for providing the least amount of future maintenance, Paint or Stain?

Answer
Hi Don
Of course the least amount of maintenance is keep the lovely earthy rosy brick as is.
Next best bet: Stain will keep the brick's texture more than paint. Keep in mind that if you want this to look like new differently-colored brick, you have to paint each brick individually....not the mortar.

Here is a really helpful link for How to Stain Brick.....check it out before you start. http://www.ehow.com/how_2087845_stain-brick.html
Good luck!
